MOUNT RUSHMORE,
SOUTH DAKOTA, IOWA & WISCONSIN
From Northern and Central
Ohio. . . One of our Premium Tours
SATURDAY, July 5th Central Ohio passengers
are picked up mid-afternoon and transported to the Greater Cleveland Area; rooms
are included for these passengers. This tour offers more meals than most any
other tour being offered to this area.
SUNDAY, July 6th We’ll depart and travel west along
I-80. Stops will be made enroute to purchase coffee and lunch. Upon our arrival
in Bettendorf, Iowa, we will be checking into our hotel and then traveling to
the Iowa Machine Shed for a special combination dinner “topped off” with a great
dessert. After dinner, those wanting to have some “casino fun”, you have time to
enjoy the Isle of Capri.
MONDAY,
July 7th We will depart the hotel after our expanded continental
breakfast and travel to the Amana Colonies where a Guide will share some of the
interesting sights with us; the package also includes the Visitors Center.
You’ll be learning of Amana, Upper Amana and Lower Amana. Following the tour we
will be stopping at the Colony Inn for a delicious family-style luncheon of
chicken & roast beef topped off by a delicious strawberry shortcake or peach pie
dessert. After a brief visit to this quaint town for shopping and/or browsing,
we will continue on to Sioux City, Iowa, where we will be staying the second
evening of this trip.
TUESDAY, July 8th A Continental Breakfast is
included this morning. We will be stopping at the truly-unique Wall Drug Store
in Wall, South Dakota. Located about fifty miles east of Rapid City, the little
drug store grew to its current size by advertising “free ice water” along the
new highway that "skirted" the town. Along the way we will be stopping at Al’s
Oasis where you’ll be able to purchase lunch from a menu that includes Buffalo
Burgers. Afterwards we will travel to Rapid City, South Dakota where we will be
checking into our hotel for the next two nights. This evening we are scheduled
to attend the Black Hills Passion Play which utilizes the colorful Lookout
Mountain as its backdrop for the stage. One of Europe’s oldest productions, the
play reconstructs the dramatic events of the last seven days of the life of
Christ, including the Last Supper. For many of our passengers, this will be the
highlight of their package.
WEDNESDAY, July 9th Today is a full day narrated tour of the Black Hills
and Mount Rushmore. We’ll be seeing the Mount Rushmore National Memorial (Shrine
of Democracy) and Crazy Horse Monument. A stop will be made at Keystone Gold
Town with a lunch in Heritage Village. There will be a number of locations along
the road where the faces of the four Presidents are viewed. We will also be
making a stop at Custer State Park, home of one of the world’s largest buffalo
herds and other protected game animals. We'll be enjoying a Chuck Wagon Dinner
with musical entertainment with time to visit their “Dances with Wolves” movie
set. We’ll even be touring a “gold factory”.
THURSDAY, July 10th We’ll travel through South
Dakota to the State of Minnesota, traveling through Badlands National Park.
Thirty-seven million years of wind and water erosion have carved an eerie sight
from the vast prairies of Western South Dakota. Steep precipices, saw- edged
spires and colored grassy-topped buttes form a strange and beautiful landscape
that tells the story of the earth’s history. We will be making several stops
during the course of the day including the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South
Dakota. This monument to agriculture is more than 100 years old and is quite a
sight with thousands of bushels of native corn and grain. This evening we will
be staying in Albert Lea, Minnesota. A fabulous dinner awaits you at the Sirloin
House.
FRIDAY, July 11th We will “catch” this morning’s
beautiful sunrise as we depart and travel to Spring Green, Wisconsin, where you
won’t believe what you’ll be seeing at the House on the Rock. Your Escort will
be showing you the animated displays, including the “orchestra of instruments
that play themselves”. Then it’s off to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, where you’ll
be enjoying the production of the musical “Evita” at the Fireside Dinner
Theatre; a delicious dinner is included. This evening we will be staying right
next door to the theatre.
SATURDAY, July 12th A Continental Breakfast is
included before we depart Wisconsin, traveling through Illinois and Indiana. At
lunch time we will be stopping in Indiana’s Amish Country where a delicious
chicken & ham dinner awaits us at the popular Der Dutchman Essenhaus Restaurant.
Afterwards we will be making a stop in the bakery and some of the other shops
before continuing our trip homeward with great memories of this comprehensive
tour . . . and eleven great meals!
