ONCE UPON A
VICTORIAN TIME IN CHAUTAUQUA
with Lunch at the Athenaeum Hotel!!!
Thursday, July
24, 2008
One-Day Tour with One Meal
$88.00 per
person
This “upscale tour package” continues to attract those who appreciate this
“fantasy visit to the Victorian era”. This tour has been offered for many years
for those who appreciate an “upscale tour” of this type. The Chautauqua Region
of New York State is home to the Chautauqua Institution. We’ll be touring the
grounds of the Institution with time for shopping and browsing while we are
here.
The Chautauqua Institution is an enchanting Victorian village and the home of
one of America’s oldest and most famous summer-arts festivals. A National
Historical Landmark, Chautauqua provides a picturesque lakeside setting with a
late nineteenth century ambiance; we will be greeted as we arrive at the gates
to this impressive lakefront community. Afterwards there will be about an hour
of free time for shopping as you feel the “Chautauqua Experience”. Chautauqua
offers a richly-woven tapestry of programs that have attracted people to this
pristine lakeside facility for more than a century. Even more impressive will be
the special luncheon at the historic Athenaeum Hotel on the grounds of
Chautauqua. We’ll also be visiting the Fenton Mansion & Historical Center in
Jamestown, New York (admissions included). The mansion is an 1863 Italianette
Villa built by New York’s Governor, Ruben Fenton, who made his fortune in the
lumber business. Other stops will be included such as a candy shop and one of
the wineries that dots the Lake Erie shoreline in this wine-producing region.
Enroute home we’ll be stopping at the popular Cracker Barrel Restaurant near
Erie, Pennsylvania.
